What is Contemporary Dance?

Contemporary dance is a dance style that was developed starting the mid-twentieth century. Today, contemporary dance is considered to be one of the most dominant genres. This style is particularly popular in America and Europe. This dance style combines aspects from different genres such as ballet, hip hop, and jazz. The five characteristics of contemporary dance are contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.
